The walls I’ve built
To surround the keep
Of where I house my heart
They’re tall and wide
And ages old
A fortress for my soul
From the parapets I watch
Them be constantly battered and rammed
It’s not that you desire
To reside here
Or are interested in what’s within
More that you want to sack and pillage
Merely for the sake of conquer
As part of it’s defense
I release the weapons of my tongue
Still on you batter and ram
Only intending to inflict damage
Neither realizing nor caring
That if you’d only knocked
You’d have gained entrance
A keep is a strong central tower which is used as a dungeon or a fortress. Often, the keep is the most defended area of a castle, and as such may form the main habitation area, or contain important stores such as the armoury, food, and the main water well, which would ensure survival during a siege.
